Crazy Apple Rumors (CARS) is shutting down. I find it simply amazing that Mr. Moltz has been able to keep dong a wonderful job of it for six years (seven maybe?). That takes an insane amount of dedication that you won't find in just anyone.
My very favorite CARS moment is a post from a 2002 involving doughnuts, wagers, and the Entity causing problems just by saying "Raspberry". I actually blogged about that post when it came out, I though it was so great and represented what was awesome about CARS and everyone should know about it.
A close second is to the raspberry post is "CARS to Apple: We Accept Your Challenge". What could Steve possible introduce that's better than sexbots? CARS obviously won that contest.
Another great CARS moment for me... I have a signed photo of the Entity. Yes, that's right. AND YOU DON'T! The Entity! (Holy Crap! Whoa!)
John Moltz lives in Tacoma, and he'll come up for Xcoder meetings every once in a while to hang with the devs and remind himself why he isn't a programmer. I don't think I was in Seattle just yet, but Joe Heck was and I asked him to snag a picture of John because I was curious if he looked as insane as his writings made him appear. I was wrong- he was just a normal looken' dude (but with two beers in his hands! Props!). However Joe did get me an autographed photo of the Entity (but did not manage to take a picture of the floating being. He's very elusive from what I understand.). SCORE!
It'll probably be worth a mint on eBay now since the Entity has left our dimension.
So congrats John. You've done a tremendous job over the years and made Crazy Apple Rumors into something that no self-respecting Mac surfer is ever going to forget. Crazy Apple Rumors is certainly an internet landmark.
